Real Weddings

June 24th, 2011

One of my favourite things about being in this industry, is working with some amazingly talented and inspired professionals. Creating a small piece for the event, we often don’t get to see the end result and it is always exciting to see photos of the event in full swing.

We created a beautiful Demask cake for Alicia at Form Over Function last October and her styling was beyond words.

The Wedding appears in the Winter addition of Real Weddings Magazine.

Kimmidoll Birthday Cake

May 9th, 2011

It is so fun making birthday cakes for kids. We always get such a thrill when we can turn a little person’s fantasy into reality. For my 8th birthday Dad took me to a local baker to pick a cake and I remember poring over the photos of all the different cakes. I finally decided on a dolly cake, I thought she was beautiful and very special. When I look back at the photos now she was a daggy, piped number but oh so super special to me.

Who would have thought 22 years later I would be married to a cake decorator and we would be producing gorgeous dolly cakes of our own.

This sensational Kimmi Doll was created for Arachi’s 6th birthday. I hope she remembers this cake as fondly as I remember my own dolly cake.

Here is a little sneak peak of how she was made.

These boots aren’t made for walking….

April 29th, 2011

A cake is just a cake right ? Something sweet to serve at the end of the meal, a tradition.

Weddings are representations of the couple’s style, taste and their love and life together.

We are really lucky to be able to turn client dreams into reality, however big or small. Some of our favourite cakes have strayed from the traditional tiered, sugar flowered creations. Not that there is anything wrong with these beautiful cakes but by thinking of the cake as a canvas or as a sculptural form your life and style can be represented in a stronger way.  You can also treat your guests to a jaw dropping moment and a conversation starter.

In early April Chris was commissioned to fashion a wedding cake into boots, a snowboarding boot and a ski boot for a couple who were mad about the snow.

Why boots? Why not?

Over a week Chris painstakingly sculpted the boots from cake and added the finer details in icing. Closely studying the boots at every new step to make sure the shape, detail and colours were perfect.

We were thrilled with the outcome, what do you think?

Signature Cakes

March 29th, 2011

When Chris and I first began Cake Occasions almost five years ago, we designed a range of wedding cakes.

One of our most enduring and popular designs The Morocco is still ordered regularly.

What we love most about working with people is they can take some of our original designs and customise them for their wedding.

Last weekend Anna combined elements of our Love Birds cake with The Morocco, to create a spectacular effect.

One for the boys

We have been very girly lately, being smack bang in the middle of the Autumn wedding season.

Chris was able to flex his muscle to create this awesome motor bike cake for Eric’s 60th.

Arc De Triomf Barcelona

February 28th, 2011

Chris worked on a really special and challenging cake last week, a replica of The Arc De Triomf in Barcelona. It is always wonderful when client’s bring their love stories to us and we can interpret them in cake

I Like To Ride My Bicycle

February 7th, 2011

Here at Cake Occasions we are mad about cycling. Chris loves the outdoor variety and is out every morning at the crack of dawn. I don’t like the idea of being hit by a flying golf ball flug out of a car window by one of Sydney’s patient and accomodating drivers, so the indoor variety suits me.

Having a cake at a corporate function or a product launch is a great way to get people talking about your brand. Chris made this cake for his cycling groups christmas party and people are still talking about it.
