Cake Design Class March 22nd

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Thank you to all our wonderful students who attended our cake decorating 101 class last Sunday.

Chris was really thrilled with the outcome of the class and all the students worked really fast and produced beautiful cakes.

We are running another cake decorating 101 class on Sunday 5th April, please book now if you would like to attend.

Many students have asked if we are running a more advanced course.

Chris and I are currently developing a class for more advanced students.  If you are interested please email me with ideas for cakes that you would like to learn and this will help us in development.

Autumn Cakes

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The cooler weather has started to arrive and with it we have created some cakes with palettes and designs inspired by the season.

Chris created in collaboration with the fabulous Alicia Larriera managing and creative director of Form Over Function this beautiful cake decorated with hand made sugar paste bodhi leaves, a motif that was used through out the couple’s wedding. They also had a chocolate brown, pistachio green and white palette. These are great colour choices for an Autumn or Winter wedding. Chris washed the leaves with a brown colouring and painted in the veins to create the skeletal look. Very painstaking and fiddly work. But the cake is just amazing.

This chocolate blossom cake was inspired by a cake we created last year for a photo shoot and we think it looks even better in brown. The white, brown and black palette is perfect for a Autumn Hunter Valley wedding. Chris hand cut each blossom and created the spray effect by intergrating all three tiers of the cake, rather than treating each tier separately. This is a really nice way to intergrate your motif onto your wedding cake.

Rich, warm palettes are the way to go for the cooler months.

Chris also worked hard on cakes for a mad basketball player, a Dr Who fan and a naughty corporate themed 21st, check out the red, lacy undies and spliffs.

Our clients set us diverse and creative challenges and we LOVE IT.

February Wrap

Cake Occasions has renamed 2009 the year of the child. We have been kept busy for the first two months of the year creating amazing cakes for children’s birthdays and christenings.
One of our favourite and most popular kid’s cakes was featured in the beautiful magazine My Child – The “I’ve Turned 1” cake was created to match the child’s birthday invitations.

Another cake in a similar vein was Vasili’s christening cake; again we matched the cake to the invitation. Here is what Vasili’s mother said about the cake
“Hi Alisa and Christopher,
Just wanted to say a very big Thank You for our wonderful cake.
It looked exactly as we wanted it to and tasted fantastic. Lots of great feedback.
Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re sensational at it.”

Chris and I often use invitations and stationary as inspiration for our designs, choice of invitation can really help with the motifs and theming of your event be it a birthday, christening or wedding.
