Cakes and Classes

Monday, June 15th, 2009

We have had another busy week here at Cake Occasions. Chris was kept busy creating cakes for birthdays and Christenings and he taught a beginners gift box class.

A big thank you to Julie and Rhonda who attended yesterday’s class. Your cakes looked brilliant.

We have two more beginners gift box classes left to run in our Winter Sessions. One will be held this Sunday 21st June from 10am - 4pm and Sunday July 26th from 10am - 4pm. There are still places left if you would like to book in. Please contact Alisa at enquiries@cakeoccasions.com.au classes cost $300 per person and include all tools, materials, cakes and tuition.

We were thrilled to have a variety of cakes this week - from soft feminine birthday cakes, to tough boy pirates and Darth Vader helmets.

We were also asked to create a christening cake to match a Dragonfly motif.

Media Week

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Chris and I received a wonderful surprise when we opened the Sunday Life Magazine last Sunday.

There was a small piece on the Art of cake decorating and our classes. We were delighted.

Also this week an article I wrote about the challenges and the delights of running a small business while wrangling toddlers and preschoolers was posted on Babyology . Click here to read the article.

There are some photos of my beautiful boys Kai and Spencer “helping” their dad Chris work

A few months ago we were lucky enough to be asked by Real Weddings Magazine to create some cakes for a Red themed photo shoot. This resulted in a feature titled “The Colour Of Love” in the just released winter issue. A great big thank you to the girls at Real Weddings for asking us to participate and taking such beautiful shots.

Cakes and Colour Palettes For The Cooler Months

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Winter has finally arrived, and here in Sydney so has the dreary, rainwashed cooler weather.

But instead of being down in the dumps about the rain, Chris and I are drawing on the cooler days and the fresh, clean colours that surround us.

Here is a gorgeous hand painted cake by Chris that was created for a recent photo shoot. Chris played around with the shape of the cake to create a canvas large enough to paint on the falling golden maple leaves.

I am not a fan of the cold, so in winter I love to rug up and be warm. The colours that remind me of winter and I think work really well for a winter palette are reds, greens, browns and all the variations of these colours. How could you go through out winter with out pure white.  I love the white on white effect, it gives such an amazing pristine feel. This inspiration board is from Martha Stewart.

CAKES FOR ALL OCCASIONS

Monday, June 1st, 2009

This week we really lived up to our name by producing cakes for all occasions.

There were wedding cakes, 21st cakes and cakes for babies turning 1.

Chris also squeezed in time to teach a private class to a group of sister’s, who made three different cakes to celebrate the 40th Birthday of one of the sisters and her husband.

One of our clients this week held her 21st at the Ivy and used the furnishings as inspiration for her cake.

Chris hand painted the stripes and the black and white floral pattern. Here is the beatiful thank you message from this morning.

Hi Christopher and Alissa,
Just wanted to say a big thankyou for my 21st birthday cake, it looked so amazing.
Everyone definitley loved it and i couldnt stop looking at it.
Once again thankyou and if i ever need another cake i know where to come. :)

Chris also created an amazing wedding cake for the wedding of Gina & Bill.

Gina was using a pallette of greens and came up with and idea to adorn her cake with a succulent rather than flowers.

The result was fantastic, we even poached the idea for a “Green” photo shoot we did.

We also had the pleasure of making cakes for a couple little peoples first birthdays.

One with a Baby Einstein theme and the other from the I’ve Turned One collection.

And finally a great big thank you to the Bennett sisters who had a private lesson on Sunday. Chris and I wish you all the best for the upcoming party and hope you enjoy the cakes you made in the class.

If you are unable to attend one of our scheduled classes, we run private classes at a time that suits you.

You can learn to make whatever cake you like and can do it with a couple of friends or family.

It is a great idea for a Hen’s day, Kitchen tea or baby shower
