Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

If you haven’t seen the new Real Weddings website, you must head over there.

Video tips of the day, behind the scene photos of shoots and great inspiration that can be used for all events not just weddings.

Chris and I were especially excited to see some of our cakes featured on the site that had not appeared in the magazine.

THANK YOU

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Over the last few days we have received some very warm thank you’s from our clients.

Working in cake design can be very stressful, the long hours and late nights, the finite deadlines and the heavy physical labour.

The best part of all of this is hearing from our lovely clients that the cake we have made for them has been amazing.

Chris and I are invested personally in every cake from discussing the design, drawing the sketches and coming up with the concept for a client all the way through to making the cake. Chris is a one man power house, it is truly amazing that the amount of work he does for each cake. This morning as he was decorating a cake for a little boys birthday I asked him if he was enjoying what he was doing. He looked around at all the different cakes he is working on this week and told me each week he gets to create something new and helps make peoples special occasions memorable events.

So thank you for saying thank you, it makes it all worthwhile.

Kids Cakes

Monday, January 18th, 2010

There has been a lot of wedding talk lately, you would think that is all we did.

Chris has also been working on some great kids cakes inspired by dwell studio designs and by invitations.

This cake was inspired by the little boy’s linen from dwell studio who also create a range of stationary fromTiny Prints .

Evolution of Love Birds Cake

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Today I thought I would show you some pictures of Chris in action creating one of our most popular cakes - the yellow love birds.

The original cake that we created for Stacey and Shane was four tiers, but Chris created a two tier version for a bride who fell in love with the original.

Skylines

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Over summer we have created lots of wedding cakes for returning expats.

Most of our clients returned from snowy London and New York to spend the holidays with their families and to take advantage of the beautiful weather and Sydney’s idyllic harbour and views.

Clients paid homage to the cities they came from or the city they were being married in by having the skyline printed on their cakes.

Here are some photos of the Sydney skyline on a cake for a couple married at Fort Denison in the middle of Sydney harbour and a small cake for the bridal table for a couple married in New York and returning from London to celebrate in Sydney.

Another beautiful skyline cake was created to sit on the bridal table of a couple who were married in New York - they provided a beautiful pink glass cake stand and my favourite cake topper - bicycle built for two.

White Cakes

Friday, January 8th, 2010

The summer edition of Real Weddings Magazine has just hit the news stands and they have produced an outstanding edition once again.

They have called this issue the White Edition and again the girls are leading the way in spotting and cultivating new trends. Of late we have been creating lots of traditional, white wedding cakes.

Chris made this cake last week, it was inspired by a Martha Stewart cake. I love the delicate sugar paste snow drops and the harbour backdrop.

We were also asked to create a cake for a Nautical shoot in this edition styled by the fantastic Alicia Larriera over at Form Over Function

Vintage Glamour

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Chris and I were thrilled to be asked by British Vogue’s fashion editor Pippa Holt to make her wedding cake.

Pippa sent us a photo of a cake she had fallen in love with in London’s Claridges and Chris used this to design her cake, this is his original sketch. Pippa wanted to have a traditional white cake, that was old fashioned in design with a waspy american feel.

As you can see the cake was a knock out, even without all the flowers it looks stunning.

I think this style of vintage glamour is set to take off.

Inspirational Image

This image was sent to us by Shannon and Kristian who had a relaxed pre Christmas wedding in Bondi.

Chris was given a brief to create a cake featuring the lotus flower and using pinks, whites and greens to match. Here are the sketches he created for this couple.

It looks like a beautiful casual wedding and I love that the bride wore teal !!!
