Happy Kids Cakes

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I have been spending some time re working our website, I have tweaked the galleries and categories and added some new images.

It is still a work in progress, but I am slowly getting there, be sure to have a look.

By sorting through all our photos I noticed how many great kids cakes Chris has made, the best thing about kids cakes is the reaction from not only the child having the party but all of their friends.

Our eldest son Kai had requested an Optimus Prime cake but a change in his current obsession at the 11th hour resulted in a Triceratops cake. I had organised blue and red decorations and cupcakes to match the transformers theme only to have him change his mind. Ah fickle 5 year olds !!

Chocolate

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Living and working in Paddington in Sydney has it’s perks. One of our families favourite things to do is wander around the streets, popping in and out of all the shops. With three boys wanting to touch, taste and buy everything, at times it can be all too much.

Yesterday afternoon on a stroll up the street Spencer, our 3 year old asked to visit Just Williams a little hole in the wall selling chocolates. The window display had easter eggs and chocolate bunnies in every colour, flavour and size. Spence was gaging to get in - maybe the Easter bunny will have to make a stop off at Just Williams before he reaches our house.

Signature Cakes

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Already this year Chris has created some spectacular cakes, but this week he blew the roof off with an amazing variation of one of our signature cakes.

We originally created the Dragon & Phoenix design in late 2008 in a blue and white colour scheme. Sylvia approached us earlier this year to create her wedding cake based on our Dragon & Phoenix, we customised it to suit her by using the bold black, white and red colour scheme and a different stylised version of the dragon & phoenix. The double happiness cake topper was hand cut by Chris and just takes the cake to a whole new level.

One of the best things about designing a cake and producing something amazing is close consultation between the client and Chris, this is truly how the magic happens.

Christening Cake Ideas

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Over the last few months I have been writing predominately about weddings, but we also make some really cool cakes for kids. So over the next few weeks I am going to bring you some photos, inspiration and ideas for amazing cakes for boys, girls and babies.

I am in the midst of organising our son Jasper’s christening and I found a picture of an amazing lamp that I wanted to use as the colour and motif inspiration for the day.

Lamps by The Owls Are Hunting

For regular readers of the blog you will know I have a slight obsession with birds and I love the modern, simplicity of the birds in flight on the lampshade.  I also LOVE the white, aqua and cherry red.

The best thing about organising a christening is the designs and motifs can be whimsical and you don’t need to stick to the age old blue and pink.

I have sourced writing paper from poppies for grace called in the field which uses the same colours and I will print the invitations on this.

Stay tuned for more on Jasper’s upcoming christening.

In The Press Part 2 - InStyle Wedding Special

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

In the new edition of Instyle one of our cakes appeared beside the cream of Australian cake design.

It is a real honour to be asked to make a cake for a shoot and it is also so exciting for Chris and I to be placed amongst the best of the best in the industry.

In the Press - Bride To Be

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Late last year Chris and I were asked by Bride To Be to be the subject of a mood board in the March issue.

Of course we were thrilled to oblige, it was a really interesting experience for us as we had to think about our inspirations for our work and find objects that epitomise us and Cake Occasions. Inspiration for creating a cake can come from anywhere, patterns on bed linen, china plates and cups, wall paper, beautiful dresses the list is endless.

It was also a great opportunity to take stock of how far our business has come since we started in late 2006 and where we want to go in the next few years.

Thank you to Amelia and Ros for a fantastic feature.

Client Wedding - Anna & Quang

Monday, February 15th, 2010

A few weeks ago our lovely client Anna sent through some beautiful images of her wedding cake shot by the fabulous SugarLove Weddings.

Anna held her reception at Sydney’s Quay Restaurant and her cake was a very chic and elegant 3 tier embellished with handmade snow drops.

I love the simplicity of the design and the delicate flowers.

Thank you to Leigh at SugarLove weddings and Anna for allowing us to use these beautiful images.

If you haven’t seen the new Real Weddings website, you must head over there.

Video tips of the day, behind the scene photos of shoots and great inspiration that can be used for all events not just weddings.

Chris and I were especially excited to see some of our cakes featured on the site that had not appeared in the magazine.

THANK YOU

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Over the last few days we have received some very warm thank you’s from our clients.

Working in cake design can be very stressful, the long hours and late nights, the finite deadlines and the heavy physical labour.

The best part of all of this is hearing from our lovely clients that the cake we have made for them has been amazing.

Chris and I are invested personally in every cake from discussing the design, drawing the sketches and coming up with the concept for a client all the way through to making the cake. Chris is a one man power house, it is truly amazing that the amount of work he does for each cake. This morning as he was decorating a cake for a little boys birthday I asked him if he was enjoying what he was doing. He looked around at all the different cakes he is working on this week and told me each week he gets to create something new and helps make peoples special occasions memorable events.

So thank you for saying thank you, it makes it all worthwhile.
